C# - Gang Of Four - Design Patterns, Elements Of Reusable Object Oriented Software Erich Gamma, John M. Vlissides, Ralph Johnson, Richard Helm

Standard C++ does not have true object-oriented function pointers. More recently, C# has popularized the delegate concept, contributing to the success of that language. Something I would encourage *everyone* to do is to read the first two paragraphs of the "gang of four" Design Patterns book, Chapter 1, Introduction. Well I had to buy 'Design patterns : elements of reusable object-oriented software' as part of the reading list back at uni (over 10 years ago), and have since always referred back to it: For the record, there is considerable disagreement over whether the "Gang of Four" book is really good, or astoundingly bad, for programmers. The GOF wrote a widely publicised and well known book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software". Feeling the golden ore, all editors quickly produced a whole line of similar books, where patterns were adapted to various domains and languages : for C##, for Ruby, , etc. A book about technology - it's a book about data and design and patterns. This term was coined in a famous book that proposed a catalogue of "Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software", and became a best-seller in the Java world (usually referred to as the "GoF" book, for "Gang of Four" authors). It's the database developer's equivalent of the famous GoF (“Gang of Four”) design patterns book, Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software. As I venture further in to disciplines other than Lotus Domino, such as C#, I find myself struggling with some of the base concepts of coding. For many applications, delegates simplify the use of elegant design patterns (Observer, Strategy, State[GoF]) composed of very loosely coupled objects.
